Camellias: Hardy Bloomers The camellia is a beloved flower because it is a plant which blooms when few others do -- in cooler weather. This hardy bloom can be seen and appreciated in parts of the country in late fall throughout winter and into early spring.  The unusually cold winter of 2010-2011 sorely tested the flower's resistance.  Nevertheless, the Tidewater Camellia Club held its 61st annual show in late January in Wilmington, N.C.  And although gardeners from southeastern states brought only about 400 blooms to be judged (instead of the normal 1,200) the show presented a stunning display of colors for visitors to enjoy.

Lake Powell is a 186-mile long manmade reservoir on the Colorado River, in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Utah and a small part of Arizona. With its sandy beaches, deep blue water and breathtaking rocky scenery, it is one of the most beautiful spots in the world. In many places, the lake’s surface is like a mirror reflecting the beauty above and surrounding the viewer. Photographer Gary Haught has captured the magical imagery of this marvelous work of nature in his frequent camping and boating trips to the area,

Williamsburg Wreaths Colorful wreaths decorate the houses in Colonial Williamsburg, the historic recreation of Virginia's first capital, during the holidays.  Houses with blue ribbons won prizes in an annual contest.
